Pineapples Not Only Taste Good – They Are Also Good For You

Do you know that pineapples not only taste good, but are also good for you? I came across this information in my Facebook stream from Live Love Fruit.

  • Bromelain, a key enzyme that reduces inflammation as effectively as drugs. It also keeps cancers from getting started and shrinks tumors! It reduces post-operative swelling and manages digestive disorders, especially those caused by lack of pancreatic enzymes!
  • Vitamin C, an excellent immune supporter and is great for oral health, reducing the risk of gingivitis and periodontal disease.
  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamine) is also found in the pineapple. It is responsible for the development of the energy in the body turning carbohydrates into the energy you need. It is also important for proper muscle function and nervous system operation.
  • Manganese is a vitamin your body cannot produce on its own. This why you must consume manganese rich food, such as pineapple. It helps with bone formation, healing wounds and maintaining healthy skin. It also help regulate blood sugar level and strengthens the immune system.

When is a pineapple at its best to eat?

Make sure you eat pineapple when it is VERY RIPE! Some people cut them when they are still green on the outside and a very pale yellow color on the inside. This is not the way to eat them. Eat them when they are very yellow on the inside and have a soft flesh. Just because you can pull out the leaves on top does not mean it is ripe. I buy them when they look like they are almost going bad (but the inside is nice and ripe and tastes great!)

If I happen to buy a pineapple that is not quite fully ripe, I leave it on the counter and only cut it when the whole kitchen smells deliciously of pineapple.
