Breadmachine 1.5 Pound Bread Recipe

Since I won my first breadmaker machine in 1992, I have gone through a number of them and each one has a different quirk for the recipe.

After my Cusineart breadmaker stopped working I decided to go with a simple Black and Decker model (Model  BK1015W). Unfortunately the recipe book for this machine was just horrendous, by that I mean almost non-existent. Now, what was I supposed to do? I googled some recipes and tried them out.

That’s when I discovered that my true and trusted recipe from the Cusineart worked great, there was just one hitch. The dough for this recipe always rises all the way to the top and sticks to the glass on the lid.

If you have 2 person household like me, you can make a smaller 1 pound loaf in the machine. The recipe for it is here:

This is the recipe I use:

  • 1 1/8 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons margarine
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups (unbleached) flour  *
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • ½ teaspoon vinegar –> acts as a preservative

* I buy different flours from the bulk store: spelt, 12 grain, red fife, whole wheat, dark rye, oat or barley and replace 1/2 cup of the regular flour with one of these. This way each bread is different. I like variety.

  • Put the ingredients in the breadmaker pan in the order given
  • Basic menu
  • Choose the crust setting you want
